FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CARMEL COMMUNITY PLAYERS FINDS NEW HOME AT CARMEL'S CLAY TERRACE
Carmel Community Playhouse will feature a 120-seat theater and be available to arts organizations, schools and businesses to hold meetings and events.
(August 19, 2009 - Carmel, Indiana) - Carmel Community Players (CCP) is pleased to announce that it has worked out a lease arrangement to occupy 4,500 sq. ft. of retail space at Clay Terrace just in time to launch its 2009-10 Pulitzer Prize-winning season. It will be called the Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace.
After the lease on its prior home at Studio 15 in the Carmel Arts District expired at the end of June, CCP made the decision to move forward with an opportunity to occupy a new home that will offer the ability to generate additional revenue by renting out the playhouse. The passion and resolve of the CCP leadership to find another home that will allow it to continue the tradition of staging successful performances has paid off through a collaborative community partnership with mall owners Simon Property Group and Lauth Property Group.
"I approached Simon Property Group about space in another retail center. But after explaining that CCP could draw theater-goers to surrounding retail and restaurants, Clay Terrace became the obvious choice as a new location." says marketing consultant and CCP spokesperson Brian Koning of BTK & Associates.
"The Carmel Community Playhouse has so much potential and amenities. It will be mutually beneficial to CCP and the businesses and restaurants that occupy Clay Terrace," says Koning.
Carmel's community theater group put together a proposal to stage their shows at the new playhouse which occupies the former Memoirs scrapbooking store. The proposal also included a plan to rent the facility out to other theater groups, organizations, businesses and individuals who need a space to hold an event. The income generated from renting out the space will benefit CCP.
"Clay Terrace is excited to be the new home for Carmel Community Players. This is such an innovative use of this space, one that will benefit both the community and Clay Terrace" said Catherine Fisher, Director of Marketing/ Business Development for Clay Terrace.
The first show CCP will stage at the new playhouse is Rabbit Hole written by David Lindsay-Abaire and directed by veteran actor and director Ken Klingenmeier. The play is about Becca and Howie Corbett who have everything a family could want, until a life-shattering accident turns their world upside down and leaves the couple drifting apart. RABBIT HOLE charts the bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day. The show is scheduled to open Friday, October 16th and run for two weekends.
As part of the agreement, CCP will use the restaurants in Clay Terrace to cater events scheduled at the venue. "There are excellent restaurants in Clay Terrace with a variety of cuisine. We hope
to give all of them an opportunity to participate in the many events we will host at the Carmel Community Playhouse," says CCP President Michael Long. "We encourage people to visit Clay Terrace to
shop and eat before and after each performance."
Besides theatrical shows, other potential events for the space include business meetings, art shows, improvisational comedy, recitals, receptions, film screenings, and business networking. The group
hopes to make the venue available for rent in early- to mid-September. BTK & Associates has agreed to manage the facility for CCP and coordinate all non-CCP events.
