Art at the Playhouse - Feburary - March 2010
Featuring the Artwork of Erik Swenson

Carmel Community Players set out to bridge visual and performing arts by allocating part of the Carmel Community Playhouse at Clay Terrace as a showcase for local artists. Beginning February 11th, we are pleased to present the beautiful works of local artist Erik Swenson.
Artist Biography – Erik Swenson
My wife, Heather, takes photographs. She sees the world and records it. Many would pass by, numb from their familiarity with a
place. She stops.
My son, Sam, creates. Glue, cardboard, markers, crayons, he does not try to control things, he just creates. And then he shares without fear of art critics.
My son, Noah, can’t hold a camera or a crayon, but you can see a sense of sheer awe as he stares out to the world. It looks like he is seeing things for the first time because – he is.
I, on the other hand, make toast. Often, I walk away too soon from a painting and leave a piece of soggy bread. Other times I strive too long and end up with a burnt brick.
It is only when I stop to create as though seeing something for the first time that I find joy and end up with a painting. Even then, my best can’t begin to replicate the raw beauty rendered by
the Master Artist. And that is okay with me.
